Calan Mai is the Welsh festival at the start of may, marking the beginning of summer - in this respect it coincides with (some would say is the same as) the Irish festival of Beltane. It is a time much associated with the blossoming of the hawthorn tree and the activities of the fairy folk, so here is a tale that blends elements of all that.
